15 years ago this month, I was working at an urgent care medical office when a young woman came in looking to get a pregnancy test. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for 5 years so naturally I was jealous, but for some reason when she emerged from the exam room looking destrought, I spoke up. She was devastated to be pregnant, she was scared and confused but after a moment of conversation both of our lives had hope. She went home and spoke to her boyfriend and together they decided to give their baby what they felt they couldn't. They gave her to us. They shared the pregnancy with us and through the journey we became friends and although we haven't had contact in a long time, I will forever love the 2 people who made us parents.
But... we're 4 now. After such a miraculous private adoption and having to have a hysterectomy 8 years ago we never dreamt of adding to our family but 2 years ago lightening struck for a second time, this time was even more of a miracle because I met our second daughter's birth mom at my place of work also, but this time I worked at a salon. I was there getting my own hair done when she came in for a service. We spoke for a time and after learning that we had adopted our, then 13-year-old, daughter she started to cry. She said she had questioned walking into that salon that day but at that moment she "knew" she was supposed to. She asked if we ever wanted to adopt again and when I said we'd always wanted to, she burst into tears and my heart leapt. That's when she told me she'd been searching and praying for the perfect family and then she asked us to adopt her baby. We couldn't believe it, this just doesn't happen like this, but we 2 are now 4 through the immense blessing and wonderful love of 3 people who didn't have to choose adoption but did.
